El Cajon Wesleyan Church CA

[Christian Resources] [WEBster Home]
On June 14, 2003, ApologetiX appeared live in El Cajon, Ca. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the concert and photograph the affair. This page describes that concert.

ApologetiX is a Christian rock band that specializes in Christian parodies of classic (and modern) rock songs. For more info on ApologetiX, check out their web site at

ApologetiX pictures from the El Cajon gig.

This concert took place at the El Cajon Wesleyan Church in El Cajon CA (a suburb of San Diego, CA). This was an incredible ApologetiX concert featuring a light show and pyrotechnics (no, they didn't burn the church down :-)

Here are some photos from the show. Sorry I didn't get more, but after the pyrotechnics started going off the sanctuary got a little too smoky to shoot photos with a flash (it was like shooting images in dense fog).

As usual, feel free to use these photos for non-commercial purposes (e.g., web sites and the like) to promote the band. If you need to use these photos for commercial purpose you will need to contact Karl Messner at karl@apologetix.com to obtain permission to use their likenesses (you don't need my permission to use these images). I'll extend the usual offer - mail me a self-addressed, postage-paid envelope, and I'll send you a CD-ROM with high-quality images (1600x1200) that I shot with my digital camera.

These particular images I've lightened up a bit so they'll be more viewable on PCs (PC display "gamma" is off from what most cameras and Macs use, so such images typically come out really dark on a PC).

Photo of Bill (Poor Bill, he always gets so few pictures taken of him playing the drums. Usually the drums are far back on the stack, up on a pedestal, and he hides behind the drums so you can't get a clear shot of him. I'd have more shots of Bill, but the smoke from the pyrotechnics made it impossible to see the drum kit and Bill at their distance from the front of the stage. Oh well, maybe next time...)

Photos of J. Yep, he's the front man. So more photos of J get taken than any other band member. Here's my collection from El Cajon:

Photos of Karl. The second "front man" for ApologetiX.

Photos of Keith. The "quiet one." Unassuming on stage, most people don't realize how important Keith's contribution to the performance really is. Take away Karl and for many songs you won't notice much of a difference. Take away Keith, and the performance sounds empty. At El Cajon we got to enjoy a bit more of Keith's humor and vocals. Alas, Keith was a bit out of my camera range, and because of the pyrotechnics and the fact that he's not all over the stage like J and Karl, and I was situated at the wrong place, I didn't get as many photos of Keith as I usually get. Sorry all you Keith fans out there...

Pyrotechnics: No, it wasn't a "Great White" concert. It was an ApologetiX concert! I'd have more of the pyro photos, but I was shooting with a digital camera and when most of the fireworks were going off the camera was recycling. I was fortunate enough to get these two shots.
