A Mary Can Cry

Parody of "American Pie" by Don McLean

Parody Lyrics by Randall Hyde

v1.
Long, long, time ago
He came one December, Jesus walked as man a while
His cousin John came in advance
Luke Chapter One, give it a glance
Gabriel said to Mary "won't you smile?"
He said to Mary "Don't you shiver
The child inside you, He'll deliever
Good News all will accept
His promises, the Lord's kept
Although you're not quite yet a bride
Within your womb Christ does reside
But one day soon man's sins He'll hide
That day, the Savior dies

Chorus
My, my how a Mary can cry
'Cause her baby who'll save me's up on Calvary high
Made the good choice, for my sins He would die
On the third day from the grave He'd arise
Third day from the grave He'd arise

v2.
On that night Micah's written of
The Son comes down from Heav'n above
Yeah the Bible tells us so
To walk with men that was God's goal
His Son would save their mortal soul
And Magi reach him, not by chance, oh no
Well Herod he was the Gov' back then
And the plans he laid were mighty grim
Small babies he'd abuse
All the two-year-olds would lose
Herod was only enraged, ran amuck
So he told their nation young boys must be struck
A dream warned Joseph he should duck
The day, those babies died

(chorus)

v3.
In twelve years, my the Boy has grown
And to the priests all the things He's shown
In His Father's house, that where He wants to be
When his father rang it was quite the scene
And you'll note this whole thing's not routine
He'd rejoice, at the temple, there he'd see
Well the priests were gathered all around
And Jesus stood there, so reknown
He'd told them what He'd learned
To Naz'reth they returned
His opinions really hit the mark
The priests could tell this boy had spark
But Joe said "Son, we must embark,
So please, stay along side."

(chorus)

v4.
Desert offered little shelter
The Devil said "I can make it better"
But Jesus said "I'll take a pass
Your bread is foul, God's word will last
And worship you? Don't be so crass!"
And Lord Jesus, off the temple, wouldn't cast
Now into the air they both would zoom
The king of this Christ could assume
All this to Christ he grants
"Just worship me" he rants
But Jesus said "I will not yield"
The Devil by those words repealed
Then to Christ Angels were revealed
The day, the Devil tried

(chorus)

V5.
Oh and there all the priests made a case
His termination in disgrace
About the Lord they would complain
And soon the ground would tremble, the cloth would rip
The gash in His side by a stick
And dire, thought the Devil, is his end
And for His garments men would wage
His mother cried in silent rage
Though things did not go well
The scriptures did foretell
As He came off that cross that night
Three days hence it would be alright
The Devil's laughing at the sight
The day, our Savior died

(chorus)

He saved the world, He brought Good News
Salvation's free, but you must choose
So don't be riled and turn away
So just kneel down and say "My Lord
I know I need you evermore"
Son of Man makes all your sins just wash away
Though sin defeats, the Lord redeems
Because He died, your heart now gleams
The cost is just a token
It's by one prayer that's spoken
You're saved by grace, no man can boast
The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost
You know the Lord loves you the most
Because, our Savior died

(chorus)

My, my how a Mary can cry
'Cause her baby who'll save me's up on Calvary high
Made the good choice, for my sins He would die
On the third day from the grave He'd arise
